Strange Lights Over Texas
At the first sight, one might thing Marfa is just an ordinary small city in Texas, similar to other small cities in the state of the cowboys and oil. But wait, do not rush with conclusion. Marfa is everything but the ordinary town in the heart of the USA. It has something that makes the folks from Marfa to stand out. They like to believe they are different.
First In Public
The Marfa became known worldwide after the Cornet, digestive monthly magazine, published the headline story about the mysterious lights over the city. It was in 1957. That was also the first time the strange lights were mentioned in public. After that, nothing was the same for the local folks.
The history of Marfa city was not so shiny. In the beginning, it was just an ordinary railroad station with few permanent residents. However, its location is picturesque. The town was built in the high deserts in the West Texas. This area attracts huge number of the tourists, and the best trumps are famous National Park Big Bend and characteristic architecture of this region.
However, the biggest magnet for the tourist and the greatest attraction of the Marfa are surely the mysterious lights that have been appearing for the centuries. These phenomena can be observed at the night, during the clear sky.
Aliens Or Ghosts?
The list of theories about these lights is endless, which is the consequence of the lack of knowledge related to this occurrence. As always in similar situation, people first think that something supernatural has its fingers in it. Based on the tradition, the aliens are the first pick. It was not different with the Marfa’s light. People think the lights are some kind of aliens’ messages that we just cannot understand. Others think the ghosts have to be involved in the story, and the lights represent their piece of work.
However, serious people do not bite this. They are still looking for the rational explanation. And really, is there anything rational behind the Marfa Lights.

Even the scientists do not know what to say about it, although there were several studies on this issue. The most “brutal” where the students from the University of Texas, who have explained the mysterious lights are nothing but the automobile headlights. Before we throw the stone on them, we should know the site of the appearing is close to the highway Route 67.
Other scientists think the Marfa Lights are some kind of the Fata Morgana and consequence of the sudden temperature changes.
Third assumes this strange appearance is caused by the gas mixture, mostly composed from methane, phosphine and oxygen.
Lucrative Attraction
The opinions of the witnesses are also different, which is the reason why it is almost impossible to get one and consistent picture.
Despite of the controversy over this issue, the folks from Marfa know how to promote their mystery. Their fellers from the Marfa Chamber of Commerce have founded the festival, which is focused on promotion and tourism. And money, of course.
