The Real Cannibal- True Story
During the beginning of 1874, the six men raised their camp near Montrose, Colorado, hoping to make a fortune in the Rocky Mountains. They bought food supplies, and moved to Gunnison, where allegedly was a lot of gold. However, one of them in April made incredible recognition.
American Civil war veteran Alfred Packer, who is due to epilepsy discharged from the army, entered the Indian agency in Los Pinos and opened his soul, after which none of those present remained indifferent.
Tortured by hunger, he and his companions were forced to eat each other!
Despite being initially denied resorting to cannibalism, Pecker did admit: "Human breasts are the sweetest meat I have ever tasted."
Pecker was originally claimed he was left by his companions and that he survived eating the petals of roses. However, people in the agency was suspicious because he brought a large amount of cash, and that he looked very fed considering that claimed he was starved for weeks.
The first recognition he had in May, but denied that he killed anyone.
- Elder Swan was the first to die, and he was eaten by other five people for about 10 days since we opened the camp. Five or six days later, and Humphrey died, and he was eaten also. He had about 133 dollars - said Pecker to General Adam.
Pecker claimed that he had found the wallet and he just took the money.
- After a while, while I was carrying firewood, Boucher was also killed in an accident, so he was eaten. Then Bel shot "California" with Swan's gun and I killed White. I shot him, and then I covered the remains, and I took a big chunk - talked Pecker.
Immediately after the confession, he was arrested and sent to prison.
The bodies of the victims discovered in August by a journalist of the magazine "Harper's Weekly" John A. Randolph. An autopsy of the body did not show that the version Pecker told was true.
However, before the investigation is completed, Pecker bribed prison guards and fled from justice. He was free until 1 March 1883, when he was discovered in Cheyenne, where he lived under a false name John Schwartz.
A few days later, he had detailed admission to General Adams, but still denied murder.
He claimed that they had enough food for seven days, but after ten days, they were cut off from the rest of the world after a storm, so they had to eat rose petals and resin.
- One morning I found White near the fire, to burn a piece of meat. It was cut off from the leg of the German butcher Miller, whose body laid along the stream, with a broken skull with an ax - said Pecker.
According to his testimony, three others were lying near the fire.
- When he saw me, Bel lifted the ax and started toward me, but I shot him in the stomach. He fell face down, and the ax had fallen. I grabbed the ax and hit him in the head - said Pecker.
