Strange statues from Easter Island

Mystery of Easter Island is something that we all hear about, but the fact that there's still so much justified questions that is simply amazing.

At Easter 1772, Dutch explorer stumbled on something strange. It was originally a mission of discovering hypothetical land mass called Terra Australis, which was thought to exist because at that time ruled the opinion that the northern and southern hemispheres should be in balance. Instead, he discovered the island in the southeast Pacific Ocean, which would later be called Easter Island, according to the date that has been found.

At the same time, he was surprised when he discovered that the island was inhabited, and the reported number of local residents varied from 2 000 to 3 000. It's really amazing, because the island is really different from everything that has ever seen before. It is located 1 900 kilometers from the nearest land and approximately 3 500 kilometers off the coast of Chile.

Despite the vast loneliness, the people of Rapa Nui, which east island call home, managed to carve and transmit a whopping 887 statues, some of which are as high as 10 meters and weigh up to 82 tons. To transport these statues, they needed approximately 17 kilometers for each. All this happened about 700 years ago. The most interesting and most mysterious thing is the transport. How Rapa Nui people carried those statues?

Theories

Various theories suggest ropes, sled, skates, leveled paths, and even that people are slowly pushing back and forth to their destination. Scientists have tried to recreate the methods that may have been used, but most ended with damaged statue or would take a hundred people a day to make 0.08 kilometers a day. We really do not know how they managed it. But regardless of the way they moved statues, they certainly had to be incredibly patient, creative and organized.

This is definitely something that will be in focus for researchers in the following period. Of course, we have to be prepared for all possible answers because things that we learned in school might not be true.
