The Weirdest Things Nazis Did During Theirs Reign – Part One
Did you know how the Nazis were obsessed with babies and what they were willing to do to get to the perfect future generation of Aryans?
Frightening crimes of the Nazi regime leaves no one indifferent. But some of their actions were very strange, like a funny assassination attempt on Pope or failed Goebbels' campaign in which he was looking for an example of "a perfect Aryan child."
Operation Holy Hitler: Kidnapping of Pope
Hitler's self-love came to the fore in the 1930s when he decided that in the local Catholic school instead of Jesus crucifixion set up his pictures.
But that was not enough, so he decided to go a step further and kidnap Pope Pius XII who did not favor him. Pope Pius XII in 1943 began to publicly condemn Nazi attacks because of human rights violations.
Therefore Hitler in his office called General of the SS, Karl Wolf, and said to him: "I want you and your troops midst Vatican as soon as possible, protect data, and artistic value, and the Pope and curia take away to the north".
In short, the plan was as follows: after the Nazi soldiers captured the Vatican and the pope, another group had to be drawn into the holy city and pretends to be the liberators. But instead of rescuing head of the Catholic Church, they were to argue that the first group of Nazis is actually a group of Italian assassin - a butcher, who would then "accidentally" shot the pope in the chaos that would follow if he would not agree to cooperate.
But the plan was revealed to Italians by General Wolf, which rightly angered them.
According to historian Robert Katz, the assassination of Pope Pius XII would not bring any benefit to Germany, so it remains uncertain whether Hitler secretly wanted the Pope's cap.
Gallery of "perverted art" that has achieved great success
Before the swastika flooded Germany, this nation has experienced an artistic renaissance. Dadaism and Bauhaus movement have taken the world like a storm, and the artistic community in Germany was cut off from the modern art.
Books began to burn, movies and plays were censored, and art had to be in accordance with the "Nazi ideals", which would confirm Aryan values and prestige of the Führer. German art scene was completely destroyed, and the people because of that were not happy.
The Nazis knew that people were angry about these new "creative constraints", so they decided to show them "what they want".
Thus, in Munich was organized an art exhibition entitled "Entartete Kunst" or degenerate art. The gallery was found more than 650 confiscated sculptures, paintings and graphics from German public museums, which are presented here as "shameful". Each exhibit was located and an explanation of why it is inferior and undesirable in the art world, but also the Nazi regime.
People are enthusiastically visited the exhibition, and in one day, through the gallery walked 36.000 visitors. But, when the gallery closed, exposed works were burned, confiscated by Nazi officials or sold at auctions. Some of them are preserved and found in museums around the world.
