Obama Lied About Osama Bin Laden?
The icon of American investigative journalism, Seymour Hersh (78), came under fire of criticism of the White House, the Pentagon, the CIA and some media, because of the text in which he claims that the whole story about the killing of the world's most wanted terrorist Osama bin Laden is outright lie of administration of President Barack Obama .
They Worked Together
Pulitzer Prize winner, who in 2004 discovered the torture of American prisoners in jail, "Abu Ghraib" in Iraq and 1969 revealed the massacre of civilians at My Lai during the Vietnam War, has now a new version of the killing of Bin Laden. He already said in 2013 for the British "Guardian" that the action of capturing Bin Laden in Pakistan in May 2011 was "a big lie, in which not a single word was true. Now, after four years of research, in an article in the "London Review of Book" revealed that US and Pakistan authorities worked together to hide the truth about, but then weakened, Osama.
Quoting known, but also anonymous intelligence sources, Hersh claims that the chief of the Pakistani Army and intelligence agencies not only were aware of the mission, but they received the money for co-operation with the Americans about the murder, and not to capture Osama bin Laden. Saudi Arabia, he says, pay Pakistan to hold Osama hideout in Abbottabad.
A spokesman for the US National Security Council Ned Price retorts that the text is full of inaccuracies and unsubstantiated claims. Underlines that for this operation once knew only the "narrow circle of top US officials":
- The President has now decided not to inform any other government, including Pakistan, which was not informed until the operation is not completed - says Price.
On a Silver Platter
Former CIA Director Michael Morell assures that it is "all wrong" in Hersh’s story and that his source "has no idea he's talking about." Morel said that he was personally sent by Obama to "soothe passions" of the local authorities disgruntled after the action of catching and killing of Osama Bin Laden.
Hers, however, argues that the US and Pakistan have agreed to deliver bin Laden to America on a "silver platter" in exchange for an increase in military aid to Islamabad. US officials deny this, arguing the opposite. They say Pakistanis were angry because of US actions on their territory, with which they were familiar.
On the biggest embers, Hersh found himself amid allegations that Bin Laden's body was not buried in the sea, but was "blown to bits with automatic fire" and then, piece by piece, omitted through the door of the helicopter above the mountain peaks. A lot of effort has been invested in the American media to refute the logic of such a procedure with terrorists. But it was equally hard four years ago for US administration to explain why it decided not to publish any evidence of Osama's death.
“I’m long in this business. I understand well the consequences of what I said - told Hersh, adding that he would be happy to admit a mistake if someone prove otherwise.
