The Mystery Of Hanging Coffins
The death is an integral part of the life, which is the reason why all those different ways of burying the dead are important part of our civilization and culture in general. However, one of the strangest rituals of entombment is related to the ancient customs in Asia, mainly in China. Those strange ceremonies we are talking about are famous Hanging Coffins that were found across Asia, especially in western and southwestern China, Philippines and Indonesia.
How And Who?
The strangest thing about these objects is the fact that those coffins literally hanging over the mountains and cliffs. According to the historians, some of the coffins are old more than several thousand years. The main question is how people have managed to put them in such inaccessible places and, at the end, who put them there.
Some scientists assume the ancient and mysterious Bo People have made the most of coffins across the China. We know those people lived in the area close to the borders of two China’s provinces- Sichuan and Yunnan Province. This old culture reached its peak some three thousand years ago. However, they literally wiped out from the face of the Earth approximately four hundred years before. Nobody knows for sure what was happening with these ancient people.
Some think they were massacred by the army during the famous Ming Dynasty. Some historians believe the rest of the Bo People escaped and moved to the other parts of the country, while others changed their names and mixed up the majority population.
Restoration Process
The archeologists have discovered more than three hundred pendulous coffins so far, mostly in Sichuan and Yunnan provinces. Some of them are in the process of the restoration and the local expert Li Chan said that more than 40 coffins have been restored. Li Chan has explained the process of the restoration, which is consists of the washing and cleaning, oiling and painting. In the final steps, all coffins must be measured and classified according to the strict rules and procedures.
Not only the coffins were valuable discovery of the Chine’s archeologist. In some of them experts have found interesting items, such as porcelain bowls, metal knives and paintings that were typical in the Bo People civilization. Maybe this will be the beginning of the process of revealing the secrets and mysteries of this ancient culture.
High Above
The majority of the secret coffins have been made from the huge wooden piece with the bronze cap and it is very interesting that no one of them was not painted. They all hang up for steep cliffs, but the most highest is one that has been found some 130 meters above the ground. Nobody knows how the Bo People have managed to do something like that, especially those people did not have advanced technology and machines.
Some assume the coffins were built on the cliffs, while other experts think they were pulled by the ropes or some rudimental ramps. This procedure is still a mystery, which makes the Hanging Coffins on of the most intrigue objects in the human history.
