Although the Holy Grail is definitely one of the most mysterious items in the human history, the majority of the historians and theologists agree at least with one thing- the Holy Grail is the object that is firmly linked with the Christianity and the secrets of the religion.
The Biggest Cure
Whether we are believers or not, the Holy Grail has become the significant object of the human curiosity and imagination- some kind of the universal cure for all human fears and problems. Mostly, “the cure” for the biggest fear from all- the fear of death.
According to the “official” story about this great item, the Holy Grail is sacred plate, dish or the cup (depending on the interpretation) from which the Jesus Christ drank during the Last Super. Although all believers agree this sacred item must be miraculous in some way, there are endless theories about where the Holy Grail might be.
Knights And Quest
If we take a look at the previous tales and written historical sources, holy cup was the object of the people’s fascination for centuries. However, the most popular stories about the Holy Grail refer to the story about the brave Knights of the Round Table and the famous King Arthur. According to the story, only the best knight with pure heart could reach the sacred cup.
Although it might be thought the Sir Lancelot was the chosen for this great honor, especially because he was the best and the most famous knight of that time, his son Galahad was the knight who managed to find the Holy Grail. This discovery has been just temporarily, because the sacred item flew into the sky, returning to the real “owner”.
Nazi And War
Even the World War II could not end without stories about the Holy Grail. According to some historical sources, the Nazis were also looking for this item. One of the most active was the notorious Heinrich Himmler, one of the cruelest people in the entire history. He thought the Holy Grail could change the course of the war and bring the final victory to the Germans. Obviously, he has failed in his mission, although he was hired the army of the experts and scientist.
However, some theorists thing the Holy Grail is not something material at all. For them, it is a symbolic sign of the spiritual connection with the God. It is more than a golden plate, treasure or material fortune.
Spiritual Connection
It is even more than the endless life too. If we observe this story from the aspect of religion, then we should all these characteristics convert to the symbolic perspective. The „fortune“ and material wealth would be than a spiritual fulfillment, the quest for the Holy Grail would be searching for the meaning and the God and the eternal life would be exactly that- eternal life. Of course, immortality should not be understood as an eternal life in this material world, but firstly in the spiritual way.
Whatever we might think about the Holy Grail, the story about it is definitely story about ourselves- about our hopes, desires, wishes and fears.
