Loch Ness Monster- The Legend
Located in the idyllic part of the Scotland’s highlands, the Loch Ness became one of the best places for a holiday in the United Kingdom. However, the natural beauty of this small city in the central Scotland is not the only thing that people want to see. Some other things intrigue the visitors. Something that is hidden deep under the water. The beast!
The brave monk
“Life of the St. Columba” was the first scripture that mentioned some strange events in the central Scotland. The book follows the life of the Saint Colomba, an Irish monk, who spent some time in the Loch Ness. According to the tail, the locals were full of the stories about some strange creature that was appearing from the water and killing the people.
The righteous monk felt his duty was to protect the villagers so he sent one of his faithful followers to investigate the lake. When the man stepped into the dark water, the huge beast has appeared. Columba managed to scare the beast with the cross and prey ant to turn the creature back down to the water. After that, the unbeliever peasants start to praise the Lord and his brave protector.
However, we must take this story with extreme caution, because the time when it happened was the time of the dragons, ghosts and other strange beings- the times of the magic and wonders. Even it all was the truth, it is really questionable if this monster would be alive until today.
We must not to forget it was in the 7th century. In addition, some investigators claim that the lake with this dimension could not be the home for two creatures of that size. So, there are just a few possibilities: the old creature and the present one are relatives or one of them never exists. There is no third solution, because nobody wants to accept that is a lake in the Loch Ness just an ordinary one.
The Water Dragon
Whatever we think about it, the close encounters with the lake monster started to be more frequent after 1930. It is known that the George Spicer was the first person in “modern history” who saw the creature. He described it as an animal very similar to the dragon or the creature from pre-historical time.
The story became very popular after it was published in the local “Courier”, but the real hysteria has created after the story has been printed in the national and international newspapers. The reporters started to name it as a dragon, dinosaur, monster fish and finally, The Loch Ness monster.
Money above all
After this, nothing was the same. People began to report strange encounters more frequent. Just three years after the first contact, two separate events were recorded: Margaret Munro and Mister Simpson were reported they saw a huge creature in the lake, described it as a some kind of dinosaur with long head and small head.
Today, the industry turns the Loch Ness monster into a very lucrative business. Tourism has boomed thanks to bizarre happenings from the past. The monster does not scare people anymore. Just its credit cards.
